2018 AFL Round 14 Preview & Predictions

West Coast Eagles v Essendon Bombers

Thursday, June 21 8:10pm, Optus Stadium

In this clash, the Eagles and Bombers face off at Optus Stadium on Thursday. The Eagles winning streak was snapped last week but they still sit 2nd on the ladder, compared to the 13th placed Bombers. But there is hope for Essendon. Tall forwards Josh Kennedy and Jack Darling are out injured. So the Bombers should be able to keep their usually strong forward line quiet. They’re coming off 3 wins in their last 4 and I do like them at the line.

Stadium Record

In 2018, the Eagles are 6-1 at Optus Stadium. In 2018, the Bombers hold a 0-1 record at Optus Stadium. They lost against the Dockers by 16 points.

Head to Head Record

Dating back to 2010, the Eagles are 6-5 against the Bombers.

Best Bet

Bombers +28.5 $1.90

Port Adelaide Power v Melbourne Demons

Friday, June 22 7:50pm, Adelaide Oval

The Adelaide Oval sees the Power and the Demons play in AFL footy on Friday. Both sides are sitting in the top eight so this should be a good contest. For the Power, they crushed the Bulldogs last week by 57 points. They’re now 3-0 at home and have won 4 of their last 5. Meanwhile, the Demons are off the bye and were poor against the Pies at the MCG previously, going down by 42 points. They have won the last 2 against the Power but Port are looking really strong at the moment. Their midfield is dominating and they should enjoy home field advantage once again.

Stadium Record

In 2018, the Power are 5-1 at Adelaide Oval. This is the first match for the Demons at Adelaide Oval since Round 8, 2017, which they won by 41 points against the Crows.

Head to Head Record

Since 2010, the Power are 8-4 against the Demons.

Best Bet

Power 1-39 $2.25

Hawthorn Hawks v Gold Coast Suns

Saturday, June 23 1:45pm, York Park

In this clash, the Hawks and Suns face off at York Park on Saturday. The Hawks are looking the better side as they sit 9th on the ladder with a 7-5 record. So they’ll be looking to push their claims for a top 8 finish with a big win. Last week, they smashed the Crows by 56 points. Meanwhile, the Suns have a 3-9 record this season and have lost 7 straight. They collapsed against the Saints last week and just can’t find the goals in the last quarter. In their last 4, they’ve been held goal-less in the last quarter! So the Hawks should enjoy a huge win this Saturday.

Stadium Record

This season, the Hawks hold a 1-0 record at York Park. They beat the Power by 3 points. The Suns have never won here in 4 attempts and 3 of them have been by 50+.

Head to Head Record

Dating back to 2010, the Hawks are 8-2 against the Suns.

Best Bet

Hawks -50.5 $1.90

Brisbane Lions v GWS Giants

Saturday, June 23 4:35pm, Gabba

The Gabba plays host to the Lions and the Giants in AFL footy on Saturday. The Giants had the bye last week and will be looking to continue their dominance of the Lions. They’ve won the last 4 meetings and the last 2 at the Gabba by 60 or more. Meanwhile, the Lions are 1-11 on the season and also come off the bye. They’ve lost 3 straight games and it will be a challenge against GWS. The Giants have some of the best players back on the park and they should win this by 4+ goals again.

Stadium Record

This season, the Lions hold a 1-5 record at Gabba. The Giants haven't played at Gabba since Round 14, 2017 and they won that match by 60 points.

Head to Head Record

The Giants are 5-2 against the Lions.

Best Bet

Giants -22.5 $1.90

Western Bulldogs v North Melbourne Kangaroos

Saturday, June 23 7:25pm, Etihad Stadium

In this match, the Bulldogs and Kangaroos face off at Etihad Stadium on Saturday. The Kangaroos should be confident of victory as they sit 8th on the ladder, compared to the 14th placed Bulldogs. The Kangaroos are 3-2 in their last 5 matches and they had the bye last week. They rank 6th in the AFL for points scored (86.75) and also rank highly (4th) for points against. For the Bulldogs, they have a 1-4 win-loss record in their last 5 matches. They are coming off a disappointing 75-132 loss against the Power. Which was compounded by the injuries to Wood and Macrae. It won’t get easier against the Roos and I can’t see where the Dogs goals will come from. Kangaroos at the line.

Stadium Record

This season, the Bulldogs hold a 3-4 record at Etihad Stadium. In 2018, the Kangaroos are 3-2 at Etihad Stadium.

Head to Head Record

The Bulldogs hold a 7-6 record against the Kangaroos.

Best Bet

Kangaroos -30.5 $1.90

Collingwood Magpies v Carlton Blues

Sunday, June 24 3:20pm, MCG

Traditional rivals Magpies and Blues go head to head once again in this Round 14 matchup at the MCG. The Magpies are looking the better side in terms of ladder position as they sit 6th on the ladder, compared to the 18th placed Blues. In terms of points scored, the Magpies rank 4th in the AFL and should be confident of beating the Blues. Looking at the Blues, they have a 1-4 win-loss record in their last 5 matches. Last week against Fremantle, they managed to be held goal-less in the first half. But I will give them a chance against their rival. The Blues are 2-3 against them since 2015 and the 3 losses have been by around 4 goals. This is like their Grand Final and I think they will make a statement after such a poor result in Round 13.

Stadium Record

This season, the Magpies are 4-4 at MCG and the Blues are 1-4.

Head to Head Record

The Magpies are 12-4 against the Blues.

Best Bet

Blues +45.5 $1.90
