2016 AFL Preliminary Finals Preview

Geelong vs. Sydney (MCG, 23rd September)

I can’t help but notice tremendous value for Sydney ($2.30) in what should be a huge preliminary final clash against Geelong ($1.65). While the Cats have arguably the best midfield duo in the league in Paddy Dangerfield and Joel Selwood, the Swans’ midfield bats so much deeper. Josh Kennedy is the ultimate big game player and is coming off a best on ground 42-possession performance against the Crows. The men from the harbour city also boast players the calibre of Dan Hannebery, Luke Parker, Tom Mitchell and Kieren Jack. Throw the wildcard Lance Franklin into the mix and it’s certainly a potent looking side. The Cats will also go into the match without Daniel Menzel, which takes away another avenue to goal.

Greater Western Sydney vs. Western Bulldogs (Spotless Stadium, 24h September)

This shapes as the match of the year with two young and exciting sides battling it out for a spot in the grand final. The Bulldogs ($3.10) have been success starved with only one premiership to its name, way back in 1954. On the other side of the ledger, the Giants ($1.40) are like the spoilt brainchild of the AFL and have a chance to play in a grand final in only five years of existence. The Giants looked impeccable a fortnight ago against Sydney so head into the match as deserved favourites. But the Bulldogs have loved the underdog throughout the season are certainly a big chance to cause yet another upset here. Momentum and confidence is a powerful thing in football and the Dogs have this in spades.

Bulldogs +19.5 ($1.91) at BlueBet
