Race Speed
Decent sized field in what looks to be a messy race and even messier speed map. There doesn’t look to be too many noted front runners, but we can ensure that the race will be run at a strong clip thanks to Religify and Cabeza de Vaca who should fight out the lead. Red Excitement lead in dramatic fashion last year against Winx, but I doubt we see those tactics again. From there it gets tricky with most of the field either mapped in the middle or towards the back of the field.
Key Runners
7. PRIZED ICON ($6.00)
Tommy Berry jumps aboard this Kris Lees trained runner who seemed to return well first up when leading (carried 61kg) and only beaten a long neck. Despite not having won 2nd up, the form is solid, including a 0.5L second in G2 company in Feb. Should put in a solid run.
10. CABEZA DE VACA ($7.50)
First up finished 3.5L behind Winx in the race named after the champ over 1400m. I liked that effort after an 8-month spell and he will no doubt take improvement from the run. Looks to be one of the only front runners in the race which should be of benefit, but I’m wary of a speed battle with Religify. Loves the distance and looks to be one of the main dangers.
13. SINGLE GAZE ($7.50)
Resuming here off the back of three trials, which should mean she should be relatively ready to go first up. Last prep lost by a nose to Hartnell first up over 1400m in the G1 C F Orr when blocked for a run at the 200m mark. Her preferred distances will no doubt be over further, but she can definitely figure here.
15. UNFORGOTTEN ($3.80)
The favourite in the race off the back of a decent first up run in the Winx Stakes where she missed the start and finished off strongly. Will be much fitter here 2nd up and will appreciate the rise to 1600m. Fantastic 2nd up record (3: 2-1-0). Might find herself in an awkward position during the run, but if Bowman can navigate safely, she will be finishing strongly.
Best Bet
13. SINGLE GAZE ($7.50)
This looks to be a very tough and messy race which could see a number of winners. I’m keen to take on the favourite who looks a touch short as she maps at the back in the field. She possesses a very strong finish but will need a great ride to win from there. Single Gaze appeals despite her best trip being further. She can get a nice spot on the rails and with a clear passage could definitely figure in the finish.
