2020 Premiership Winner
We’ll look at the top six favourites in the betting markets.
Richmond ($4.50)
You can’t go past the Tigers for the flag. The side they have is more then capable of going back to back. Big loss is Alex Rance has retired but they didn’t have him all of last year and still won the flag, Grimes and Houli stood up and took control of the back line. Tom Lynch will be better in 2020 after having his first year with the Tigers last year and could also win the coleman with the amount of clean ball he will get from Prestia, Martin, Pickett and Cotchin. They are also a side that doesn’t mind to travel to win games. There smacking of the Lions in the first final made the other teams in the competition get very worried. They are 100% making the top 4 and then the world is their oyster from then on.
West Coast Eagles ($5.50)
The Eagles 2019 ended on a sour note last year they were favourites with the Tigers going into their round 22 game vs the Tigers at the MCG and narrowly lost that and then dropped a game at home vs the Hawks that ruined their top 4 chance and when you are flying back and forth from Perth you need a double chance to win a flag. Lost Willie Rioli to a drug charge just before their semi final vs the Cats and that hurt the side mentally. Big in for the Eagles is Tim Kelly they gave up the house for Kelly but he could be the difference of them winning a flag in 2020. He is a contested bull and if Nic Naitanui gets him first use of the ball watch out. Top 4 finish is vital for the Eagles if they are to make a play at season 2020.
GWS ($8)
GWS made it to the Grand Final and that surprised most people because they finished outside the top 4 but they beat some sides on the way to the big dance. They also didn’t have some of their star players in Congilo and Ward which made the journey to the Grand Final even more surprising. They are playing 12 games at home which in my eyes is a lock in the top 8 for them. They have stars all over the park and low how to kick a score with Jeremy Cameron up forward with his partner in crime Toby Greene. I expect the Giants to feature in season 2020 but it will be a lot harder with a tougher draw to start season 2020.
Hawthorn ($17)
The Hawks are my surprise package for season 2020. Alaistair Clarkson is a born winner and will have this side playing finals in season 2020. They have recruited very well with big John Patton who is coming off an ACL injury but has looked slick in the pre season games and can kick a big bag of goals regularly. They have a nice draw to start season 2020 and can see them winning 4 of their 6 games to start. Led by Mitchell and Omera in the middle the Hawks will be there about in season 2020. Very good value at $17 to win the flag.
Collingwood ($7.50)
You can’t go past the Pies who last year should of made the Grand Final in season 2020 if it wasn’t for their performance in the 3rd qtr vs the Giants. If they get a full season out of De Goey, Moore and Adams they will be contesting for that top 4 spot. The only negative I have with the Pies is who is going to kick a score if Cox or Reid can’t score? They have Brodie Mihocek but I can’t see him kicking 50+ goals. They have an elite midfield who will generate a lot of scoring opportunities. They will make the top 4 but the Pies have one of the hardest draws to start season 2020 beginning with the Bulldogs away.
Prediction
It is hard to split the Tigers, Hawks, Eagles and Giants but I am favouring the Tigers to go back to back. There midfield is near unstoppable with Martin running his own show. If the Eagles can get a top 2 finish they will be hard to stop at home and the Hawks are my surprise pick with the draw they have and the recruits they’ve brought in anything could happen.

AFL – 2020 Minor Premiership Winner
Tigers are my pick again Tom Lynch up forward and 14+ games at the MCG it will be hard for any side to beat the Tigers at home and they also like to travel away and get the points so watch out any side in 2020.

AFL – To Make Grand Final
I have gone for a little bit of value here and have chosen the GWS Giants to make the Grand Final in season 2020. They will be very hungry to make it back to the big dance after they are embarrassed on the big stage last year.

AFL – 2020 Top 8
Hawks will make the top 8 in season 2020 as mentioned before they have recruited well and have a nice draw to start season 2020 they will play finals this year.
Hawks $1.75
AFL – 2020 Top 4
Collingwood always find a way to make it into the top 4. Most games are at the MCG which helps them as their supporters will carry them over the line in most games. List is still in prime age to win a flag.
Collingwood $2.10
AFL – 2020 To Miss Top 8
Losing their best player over the last two years in Tim Kelly has been a bitter pill to swallow for the Cats over the off season and with that I think they will go back wards. Had their chance last year to make a grand final after finishing first but lost first final to the Pies and then knocked out by the Tigers in the prelim. Can’t see them kicking a big score with Hawkins in the forward line. Ageing list and no real young players exciting anyone, could be a long year for a Cats fan.
Geelong – $2.50
AFL – Most Losses
The most hyped up AFL side over the off season but I am picking them to finish last and most people to be shocked at home bad this side is. Patrick Cripps will carry them over the line in some games but other then that it is going to be a long year for a Blues fan. There form in the pre season has been shocking and if they carry that into season 2020 they will not improve at all.
