AFL 2025 Brownlow Medal Winner - The Contenders
Cripps took out the Brownlow Medal in 2024 with a record 45 votes with Daicos right on his tail with 38 votes. Can we have a repeat of 2024? Here is a preview of the 2025 Brownlow Medal. You'll get the best odds before the season so it's a good time to place bets.
Nick Daicos ($5.00) - It was another unlucky Brownlow for Daicos as he polled 38 votes but still finished 2nd. 38 votes is now the most votes for a non-winner. I think he'll eventually get the job done and 2025 could be it. He should get more midfield time with an aging Pies midfield that includes Pendles, De Goey, Crisp and Mitchell. Also, the Pies should play better in 2025 and that should only help Daicos poll more votes.
Patrick Cripps ($10.00) - Crippa had a dominant 2024 season and will look to go back to back. He broke the Brownlow record with 45 votes and polled an impressive 12 three-vote games. It doesn't seem to matter where the Blues finish on the ladder as his presence is obviously a big one for the umps. Only injuries can stop him from getting into the top 3 in 2025.
Marcus Bontempelli ($13.00) - The Bont is almost 30 so it's fair to say, he's running out of time to win the Brownlow. He comes off a pretty disappointing 19 votes and has been wildly inconsistent over the years. For example, he got 29 votes in 2023, 10 in 2022 and 33 in 2021. So I don't think he offers great value here.
Isaac Heeney ($19.00) - The Swans superstar had arguably his best season in 2024, highlighted by 21 votes after Round 11. But he had a lull in the middle of the season and got suspended in Round 19. However, he still finished in the top 5 and I think he'll be dangerous in 2025. He can kick goals and gets more midfield time now. When the Swans win, he should be in the votes.
Caleb Serong ($21.00) - Serong had another consistent season in 2024, picking up 28 votes and finishing 4th in the count. He's right in his prime at 24 years old and is becoming the leader in the Dockers midfield. If he can poll votes early in 2025, I think he offers nice value.
Zak Butters ($23.00) - He only polled in 12 games last year but still finished 3rd with 29 votes. So when he plays well, expect a 3-vote performance. However, there is a lot of competition at the Power (Rozee and JHF) and his shoulder injury issues can be a problem.
Jason Horne-Francis ($23.00) - He polled 19 votes last season and improved on his 16 votes from 2023. Expect more improvement in 2025 for this young star. But not sure he can win it just yet.
Christian Petracca ($23.00) - Started the 2024 season with 10 votes after Round 5 before injuries took over. If he can stay fit and on the park in 2025, I think he offers nice value odds. He should poll well when the Dees win.
Clayton Oliver ($26.00) - He's polled just 11 votes in his last 36 games and I don't see him getting back to his 2021 form.
Lachie Neale ($26.00) - 22 votes last year and always consistent. But I think his days of winning the Brownlow are likely over. The likes of Ashcroft are going to get more midfield time at the Lions and Neale is now well over 30.
Jai Newcombe ($26.00) - Jai has improved his poll count over the last 3 seasons. He picked up 11 in 2022, 18 in 2023 and 24 last year. I think he needs to poll in more games to get up into the top 5. But should be a lock to win the Hawks team votes.
Errol Gulden ($26.00) - Gulden proved 2023 wasn't a fluke with 25 votes in 2024. He's now polled 52 votes in 2 seasons. So I believe he offers nice value in the top 5 or 10 markets.
