OVERVIEW

The fairer sex take centre stage on Saturday at Rosehill with the fillies and mares set to do battle for Group 1 glory in the Coolmore Classic over 1500m. As is normally the case each year, the 2021 edition looks wide open with BlueBet currently betting $6 the field. The rail is in the true so expecting them to be getting off the fence by this stage of the day especially if the expected rain hits. Anywhere from 10-20mm is forecast before race day so monitor for the possibility of a rain affected surface.

SPEED

Speed looks above average in this race with SOVEREIGN AWARD coming up from Melbourne expected to inject pace from a wide draw. VANGELIC and SWEET DEAL land on the bunny with MIZZY on the seven-day back-up also expected to push forward. ICEBATH should use the low draw to settle just off them from your favourite FORBIDDEN LOVE who maps great. SUBPOENAED and MADAM ROUGE midfield with DAME GISELLE and REELEM IN RUBY who could be cast deep. RICH HIPS midfield with TRICKY GAL and ALL SAINTS EVE. KRONE should get back on the inside in company with EMERALDS, CHAILLOT, ALIFEROUS and BARBIES FOX all settling at the tail of the field.

KEY RUNNERS

CHAILLOT ($7.50) Declan Bates/Archie Alexander

Thought this mare was fantastic 1st up at Flemington in the Frances Tressady. Granted she got a fast tempo to suit her racing pattern but she powered over the top of them late to land a good betting move ($11 earlier in the week into an SP of $3.80). Given some time to mature, she may just have come back a better horse the time and she looks well suited stepping to the 1500m here 2nd up. She’s 1/1 on soft ground so any rain shouldn’t pose an issue and she should be suited by a genuine tempo. Want to monitor how the tracks playing first but if it’s fair and they are able to run on I want to be in her corner.

ALL SAINTS EVE ($12) Brenton Avdulla/John O’Shea

Profiles great for this race as a lightly raced four-year-old mare on the up. Thought her run 1st up was terrific in the Liverpool City Cup when she got back on a very slow tempo (5 lengths slow to the 600m) but got home really strongly in perhaps the inferior ground to run the 3rd fastest last 400/200m of the meeting. Suited now stepping to the 1500m and is unbeaten 2nd up. Won’t be deterred by any cut in the ground and from the gate, hoping she can settle a little closer to be able to blend into the race at the right time.

FORBIDDEN LOVE ($6) Nash Rawiller/Richard & Michael Freedman

Shot to favoritism for this race with a huge win last start in the Surround (1400m) when she put paid to them with a dazzling turn of foot in what was the highest rating race of the day. Was in the slightly inferior ground there so there was huge merit to the win and the margin was decisive. Has shown that she can produce on both slow/fast tempos, is tactically adaptable, and she likes wet ground. The only niggle is the price. She started $10 last start against her own age and now you’re being asked to take almost half that against the older mares. If she was to drift slightly however, I could certainly look to have her on my side as at least a chop out result.

STRATEGY

CHAILLOT ($7.50) & ALL SAINTS EVE ($12)

Absolute lottery of a race with a host of winning chances but have landed on Chaillot on top. She brings a different form line up from Melbourne and her figures are strong enough to feature here. Slightly unexposed on wet ground but she won her sole start on a soft track. Want to monitor how the track is playing because she’ll get back but they should go at a genuine tempo here which will give her her chance to get over the top of them late. Also backing All Saints Eve. Like her set-up out to 1500m and on a wet track.

GOOD LUCK PUNTERS!
