OVERVIEW

The 3-year-old fillies face off here in the Australian Oaks, a staying test which is sure to unearth potential future staying superstars. Favourite Colette is on the quick back up after a dominant performance last week in a very strongly run race. On the flip side of the coin, he’ll face stiff competition from Probabeel and Shout The Bar, who come into this off a run very slowly lead-in race which turned into a sit and sprint, making for an intriguing Oaks matchup.

SPEED MAP

Dorothy of Oz looks to get an uncontested lead here and should find the front easily from barrier 1. Last start winner Shout The Bar shouldn’t be far away though and may even push for the lead in the early stages. Apart from those two, there doesn’t look to be a tonne of speed engaged. Favourite Colette might be next in line along with Strange Charm. Probabeel maps toward the back of the field.

KEY RUNNERS

  1. PROBABEEL ($4.00)

Was outstanding in defeat two back behind Funstar, running the best rating last 600m and 400m of the meeting, against the bias. Followed that up last start with a solid second behind Shout The Bar over 2000m. She keeps measuring up to whatever is thrown at her and looks a great chance at 2400m.

  1. SHOUT THE BAR ($4.40)

Putting together an impressive career now, having only been defeated once in her four starts. That came two starts ago and she only went down by a nose. She was benefited by a slow tempo last start at Rosehill in the Vinery and on the back of a brilliant Adam Hyeronimus ride, she was able to kick clear in the straight for a strong victory.

  1. COLETTE ($3.10)

Impressed last start when jumping from BM64 grade straight to Group 3 and duly saluting by almost 3 lengths in a truly dominant display. She looks like she’s got improvement to come and might prove to be a smart filly, however, she’s come up tremendously short here against a quality field.

BLUEY’S PICK

  1. PROBABEEL ($4.00)

All of the favourites have their queries in one way or another, as is generally the case for most young fillies jumping to 2400m for the first time. For mine, Probabeel looks the most likely winner after putting in yet another solid performance last start. She hit the line well again and if she can run a strong 2400m, she looks the one to beat.
