OVERVIEW
The George Ryder is Winx-less this year, with the wonder mare winning the past four editions. That doesn’t mean the George Ryder should be ignored however, as there are some serious Group 1 talents engaged. All eyes will be on New Zealander Te Akau Shark, who will be looking to notch up his third consecutive Group 1 win.
SPEED MAP
This looks to be a genuinely run affair, with Dreamforce likely to set a hot early speed. Spend and Happy Clapper should sit in behind the leader, followed by; The Bostonian, Best of Days and Brandenburg. Super Seth and Te Akau Shark should be next. Alizee should round out the field.
KEY RUNNERS
- TE AKAU SHARK ($2.05)
Was against Te Akau Shark last start but was quickly proven wrong as he let down a withering burst of speed from the 600m to score a very impressive victory in the Group 1 Chipping Norton. That got the monkey off his back, as it was his first Australian victory. Looks to be a serious racehorse.
- THE BOSTONIAN ($7.50)
Was well supported first up and duly saluted with a dominant 1.3L victory in the Group 1 Canterbury Stakes over a solid field. Typically gets better with a run under his belt so I’m expecting a slightly better performance second up. Looks right in this.
- SUPER SETH ($5)
Really impressed first up, sitting just behind the leaders before gobbling them up easily in the straight for a 1.25L victory. Last start sat outside the leader Streets of Avalon in the Futurity Stakes but was unable to go past him in the straight. Was arguably disadvantaged by the track that day however, so he likely has further improvement to come.
BLUEY’S PICK
- TE AKAU SHARK ($2.05)
Despite the imperious form of The Bostonian, I find it impossible to be against Te Akau Shark here. His run last start was absolutely blistering off a moderate tempo and he should be more suited here off a stronger tempo. Expect him to finish over the top of them again here.
