OVERVIEW
Despite the growing concerns over Coronavirus, the All Star Mile will thankfully go ahead as planned with a high quality field engaged for the $5 million race. All eyes will be on superstar Alligator Blood as he looks to notch up his sixth consecutive win and eleventh overall win from just twelve starts. Kiwi runner Melody Belle will be looking to secure more Group 1 success. WA runners Regal Power and Superstorm also have strong claims after strong last start performances.
SPEED MAP
The in-form Streets of Avalon should ensure this is a genuinely run mile and will likely try to lead them all the way here. Favourite Alligator Blood should be able to sit just off. Rest of the speed looks to be muddling with a number of runners mapped off the pace or toward midfield. Star Missile and Mr Quickie are likely to sit at the rear of the field.
KEY RUNNERS
- REGAL POWER ($11)
Was brilliant last week in the Group 1 Australian Cup, sitting toward the rear before hitting the front with 200m to go and just being run down by Fifty Stars. Third up, back to 1600m here and draws a nice barrier which might allow him to sit a fraction closer. A horse on the up and this is definitely within grasp for him.
- ALLIGATOR BLOOD ($2.80)
Impossible to fault this runner, who has now won five consecutive races and ten out of eleven overall. Two starts back found his toughest opponent to date in Catalyst but showed his class and knuckled down for a gallant victory. Last start up against the same opponent; was given a great ride out in front and kicked away from a dominant victory. Looks hard to beat again
- SUPERSTORM ($13)
Won easily first up over in Ascot as a $1.55 favourite but put in an eye-catching run behind Alligator Blood last start in the Group 1 Australian Guineas. He was last rounding the turn and got clear at the 350m, eating up the ground to finish just 1.25L away. Third up here and could be a serious improver.
BLUEY’S PICK
- SUPERSTORM ($13)
Alligator Blood looks incredibly hard to beat once again but I doubt he has it as easy as he did last time. I’m siding with the up and coming Superstorm who was seriously impressive last start in the Australian Guineas. With a hot tempo expected here, he looks a great chance to improve on his run last start.
