OVERVIEW
Sixteen Fillies and Mares will contest the 2020 Coolmore Classic, which looks to be an absolutely wide-open affair. Sylvia’s Mother will likely jump favourite after two strongs wins to kick off her preparation, however, will face strong opposition from the likes of; Pohutukawa, Sweet Deal and Spanish Whisper. Dixie Blossoms took out the race last year.
SPEED MAP
This looks to be an absolute dash, with many front-running types likely to push forward and hunt for the early lead. Acting looks to be the most likely leader but the likes of; Con Te Partiro, Sweet Deal, Sweet Scandal and Spanish Whisper won’t be far away either. Favourite Sylvia’s Mother should settle midfield along with Fiesta. Noire and Miss Fabulass are the likely backmarkers.
KEY RUNNERS
- SWEET DEAL ($4.60)
Put together a strong Spring preparation, progressing nicely through the grades and scoring three wins, including one at Group 3 level. Picked up where she left off this time around, scoring a solid 2.3L length victory to kick off the prep. Last start was in front for the entire straight but was run down in the shadows of the post by Dawn Dawn. Looks to be right in this again.
- POHUTUKAWA ($5.50)
Progressing nicely with each run so far this prep. First up likely found the 1200m a touch short but was able to hit the line very strongly from the rear of the field. Last start was last rounding the turn but chased home solidly to finish just 0.2L (0.1L away from Sweet Deal). Should appreciate the rise to 1500m and will appreciate the strong tempo up front.
- SYLVIA’S MOTHER ($4.40)
Hasn’t put a foot wrong this preparation, winning both starts in impressive, come from behind fashion. First up over 1200m was at the rear of the field but let down strongly to power home over the field. Last start was in some trouble rounding the turn but managed to get out and chase strongly to again power home over the top. Will love 1500m and this tempo.
BLUEY’S PICK
- SYLVIA’S MOTHER ($4.40)
The top three in the market look the hardest to beat and out of those I’m going with Sylvia’s Mother, who gets a chance to test out her Melbourne form up in Sydney. She has been nothing short of brilliant this prep and with the strong tempo up front and a clear run, she should be powering over the top of them once more.
