OVERVIEW
The early scratching of Super Seth means the Randwick Guineas has completely changed complexion in the past few days. The field now looks wide open, with any number of horses having claims to win the race. Most of these will be looking for further which makes it even more intriguing. Looks a tough but intriguing race for punters.
SPEED MAP
Speed doesn’t look to be strong here at all and it looks like Microphone may set a muddling speed in front from the widest barrier. Also pushing forward looks to be The Holy One who may also challenge for the lead. Behind those two it looks to be a very congested middle part of the field and the pair of Castelvecchio and Shadow Hero should be at the tail of the field.
KEY RUNNERS
- MICROPHONE ($6.50)
Had no room first up and then followed that up with a solid victory at Caulfield. Was edged out late last start which leaves me a little bit concerned about 1600m here however, with the soft lead that he looks to get, it’s impossible to leave him out of my numbers.
- SHADOW HERO ($4.40)
Resumed last start, working home strongly from the rear of the field to finish just 3 lengths away. The Group 1 winner is no doubt looking for further this prep but 1600m might just be enough for him to showcase his talent. Won in dominant fashion second up last year in a similar return.
- PANCHO ($11.00)
Should be another who is suited by the rise to 1600m. He was 1400m > 1600m second up last year and scored a strong victory over Romani Girl. His return run this prep was very good behind most of these same runners and he looks like one that could take sharp improvement second up here.
BLUEY’S PICK
- MICROPHONE ($6.50)
I don’t believe Microphone’s best distance to be 1600m he looks to get the run of the race out in front here and if he is left alone he can pinch some soft sectionals that might play right into his favour. Form of late has been solid and he can continue the run here. Looks a fair price.
