OVERVIEW
All eyes will be on red-hot favourite Hanseatic, who is unbeaten to date in three career starts, including an impressive come from behind victory last start. The colt isn’t bulletproof however, and lines up against a quality crop of 2-year-olds who all have one thing on their mind – victory.
SPEED MAP
Pace should be more than genuine here with Letzbeglam, Rulership and Away Game all likely to push forward and look for the lead. Hanseatic finds a horror draw in barrier 1 and may have his hands full back on the rail. Muntaseera should round out the field at the rear.
KEY RUNNERS
- HANSEATIC ($2.50)
Will be looking to improve on his flawless career record thus far, which has included two dominant wins and one eye-catching victory last start. Showed his class to win last start with blistering sectionals to finish over the top of Rulership. Looks to be a potential future superstar but will need a lot of luck here.
- RULERSHIP ($6.00)
Has only had the two career starts to date and has impressed in both of them. Won by 2.3L on debut at Randwick before coming up against Hanseatic and measuring up despite losing narrowly. Makes his own luck on the speed here and looks the main danger to Hanseatic but might be caught in a speed battle up front.
- ARYAAF ($23)
Intriguing runner at odds here. Scored a 1.8L victory on debut against Muntaseera (who starts $10 here) at Flemington before being spelled. Returned following that as favourite three weeks ago at Caulfield on the bog track where she found the inferior inside ground. Could be a sharp improver.
BLUEY’S PICK
- ARYAAF ($23)
Highly talented field here, headlined by Hanseatic; however, from barrier 1 I’m happy to oppose the favourite. Rulership may be caught in a speed battle up front and that could set up the race for one of these other runners. Aryaaf was caught in the quicksand first up last start and could improve drastically on that run. Already has a Group 3 win to his name and at the current price I think he looks great value.
