OVERVIEW
With $2 million up for grabs in the Magic Millions 3YO Guineas, it’s no surprise a quality, capacity field steps out onto the Gold Coast track to kick off the New Year. Alligator Blood headlines the field after losing the Caulfield Guineas in dramatic fashion last Spring. Alligator Blood is also the only runner in single-figure odds and punters will be waiting patiently to see if he can get the job done.
SPEED MAP
Pace should be strong here with a number of front runners engaged. These include; It’s King Of Magic, Howwonderfullifeis, Dubious and from the wider barriers; Diamond Thunder and Eleven Eleven. Any of these runners can take up the lead. Favourite Alligator Blood draws gate 11 and looks to get a gun run behind the leaders.
KEY RUNNERS
- ALLIGATOR BLOOD ($1.75)
This Vandyke runner has been on a tear since resuming, scoring comfortable 2L+ victories in both of his outings this prep. He’s only been defeated once in his career and that was at Group 1 level, when Super Seth put in a withering burst to defeat him by a nose. Go well again here.
- DIAMOND THUNDER ($16)
Has been racing in top form so far this prep, scoring two wins and a fourth. Raced admirably behind Alligator Blood last start, finishing just 3L away from the favourite. That was his first go at 1400m and might improve off that run here. Draws an awkward gate here but looks one of the chances.
- EXHILARATES ($16)
Possesses a deadly turn of foot when he is racing well, which has been on display a number of times in the past. including his dashing win at Caulfield last year in the Quezette. He should benefit from the hot tempo out in front and could be flashing home late.
BLUEY’S PICK
- ALLIGATOR BLOOD ($1.75)
Impossible to go past Alligator Blood here. He is undefeated this prep & whilst these wins have come against weak fields, he has shown that he is an extremely talented horse who looks like he should go on to bigger and better things. I make him very hard to beat.
