The AFL Grand final is one of Australia’s major sporting events. 23 rounds make up the season and three weeks of AFL finals footy follows and on Grand Final day only two teams remain.

Traditionally held on a Saturday afternoon in late September the Grand Final takes place at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) in Melbourne, Victoria, and is officially the most popular Australian sporting event of the year pulling in approximately 5 million TV viewers in 2016.
The MCG has hosted the Grand Final AFL / VFL match from 1902 and the game has only been played at a different venue on just nine occasions since 1898. At the end of the Grand Final there is a presentation ceremony where the winning team are presented with their Premiership medallions.

The AFL Grand Final winners are awarded the AFL Premiership Cup and Premiership Flag. The player judged to be the man-of-the-match is awarded the prestigious Norm Smith medal.

In the last few years we've seen some historic feats in Grand Finals. In 2015, Hawthorn won their third straight premiership, the first team to do so since the dominant Brisbane Lions (2001-2003) when they downed West Coast. In 2016, the Western Bulldogs broke a 55 year premiership drought when they upset the Sydney Swans 89-67. Richmond are the current premiers and remain the benchmark of the competition having won 2 of the past 3 flags. Early premiership markets again suggest that they are the team to beat in 2020.
