Australia vs New Zealand – ODI Series Preview

Australia vs New Zealand
ODI Series

With the South African test series behind them, Australia now turns its attention to the white ball with three ODIs against the Black Caps. New Zealand also changes modes after recently completing a two test series at home to Pakistan, which they won 2-0 so we can expect some good cricket as both teams enjoy the 50 over game.

Australia’s 14-man squad comprises of returning faces and a possible debutant. Short game specialists Finch, Maxwell, Bailey and Faulkner have all been named in the side. Leg spinner Adam Zampa is the only specialist spinner and will look to build on his 18 ODIs, while Cummins’ return is an exciting one for Aussie fans. Uncapped Western Australian Hilton Cartwright is the only newcomer.

New Zealand has their own newcomer, fast bowler Lockie Ferguson. He joins regular quicks Tim Southee, Trent Boult and Matt Henry, as well as all-rounder Colin de Grandhomme who impressed against Pakistan. The dangerous Martin Guptill and consistent Kane Williamson hold the key to New Zealand’s batting.

ODI Form Line

An inexperienced Australian side was whitewashed in South Africa 5-0 just two months ago. Prior to that they won 8 from 9 ODIs against Sri Lanka, Ireland and the West Indies. New Zealand lost 3-2 in India five weeks ago. With the series on the line New Zealand was bowled out for 79, after being 2-63, in the final ODI.

Head to Head Record

The last nine ODIs are evenly split with 4 wins each and a ‘no result’. Only one of those matches was played in Australia and it was the 2015 World Cup Final, which Australia won by 7 wickets.
