Sullo Says: 2016 Caulfield Cup Preview

Punters continue to zero in on Caulfield Cup favourite Jameka with the Ciaran Maher trained mare rock solid in betting at $3.70 with Bluebet.

The Darren Weir trained Real Love ($7.00) and imports Scottish ($8.00) and Articus ($9.00) are the only other horses in single digits in current betting.

Bluebet CEO Michael Sullivan said punters had only wanted to back Jameka and the imports at this stage with little money for the other locally trained runners.

“Jameka is rock solid in betting and I can’t see her getting out too much from her current price,” Sullivan said.

“The best backed of the imports have been Scottish and Sir Isaac Newton who has shortened from $14 to $11 in recent days.”

Sullivan noted the fact Jameka is a clear favourite indicated it wasn’t a particularly strong edition of the Caulfield Cup.

“Jameka got easily beaten by Hartnell in the Turnbull so the Cox Plate with him and Winx is clearly the stronger race,” he said.

“Real Love is second pick and she had every possible favour when beating third graders at the Valley last start.

“This is probably one reason punters are happy to look at the imports who haven’t had a run in Australia despite the fact they have a poor record.”

Sullivan said he thought the best Caulfield Cup roughies were the Chris Waller trained Preferment and the Lee and Anthony Freedman trained Our Ivanhowe.
