Some of the leading Spring contenders resume in the Group 1 Memsie Stakes at Caulfield on Saturday with the Darren Weir trained Black Heart Bart the raging $2.70 favourite with Bluebet.
Master trainer Weir has a strong hand in the race with second favourite Mahuta ($6.00), third favourite Palentino and Melbourne Cup winner Prince of Penzance ($41) representing the stable.
Black Heart Bart was ultra consistent last preparation after transferring from the West to be with Weir with wins in the G1 Goodwood and G3 Victoria Handicap as well as placings in the Newmarket, All Aged Stakes and the Stradbroke.
He only just missed in the Newmarket first up last preparation and with strong residual fitness from the winter, he deserves to be clear favourite here.
Bluebet CEO Michael Sullivan said Black Heart Bart had been the best backed early but the race looked to have many chances.
“Black Heart Bart will run a very solid favourite as there has been strong early support for him but punters have also been looking for value in the race,” Sullivan said.
“We have seen good early money for the enigmatic Lord of the Sky at $13, He or She at $18 and Alpine Eagle at $15.
“There looks to be plenty of chances in the race and as such I am happy to lay the favourite at this price but I am sure punters will be happy to be on him by the same token.”
